UPDATE3: Azerbaijan: OPEC+ states to meet Apr 6 in video conference format

(Adds comments in fifth paragraph)

BAKU/DOHA/MOSCOW/BAGHDAD, Apr 3 (PRIME) -- The OPEC+ meeting devoted to stabilization of oil prices will be held on April 6 in a format of a video conference, Zamina Aliyeva, an adviser to the Azerbaijani energy minister, told PRIME on Friday.

“The OPEC+ meeting will be held April 6 in a video conference format. Azerbaijan has received an invitation. The meeting is expected to bring together the ministers of the alliance countries and discussions of the new “Declaration on Cooperation,” Aliyeva said.

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia called on oil producing countries to have an urgent meeting.

Kuwait’s Minister of Oil Khaled Al Fadhel said Kuwait supports the initiative of Saudi Arabia to convene a meeting of oil producing countries and welcomes the accession of a large number of non-OPEC states to it.

A representative of the Iranian oil ministry told PRIME that a precise date of the OPEC+ meeting had not been defined yet on an official level.

A source familiar with the OPEC secretariat’s plans on preparations to the meeting told PRIME that oil producing countries will discuss the possibility of reducing oil production by 10 million barrels per day at the meeting on April 6.

“The conversation goes around 10 million barrels. But it is not yet known how the quota will be distributed. There are a number of new countries that want to join the format (OPEC+). All this will be discussed at the meeting,” the source said.

The Wall Street Journal reported citing sources familiar with the plans that oil producing countries plan to discuss the possibility of decreasing production by at least 6 million barrels per day.

The group is also considering inviting oil producers from Texas and Canada, the sources said.
